Why Email List Building Will Help You Make Contact With More ...

Successful Web marketing experts say the same thing, ?The money is in the list?. ?That?s why most of their Internet marketing activities are directed towards building an email list. This is how they reach even more prospects. You can see from their emails, with offers of free ebooks or other gifts, they want ?you on their list and they want you to remain there. This makes good commercial sense because they are building a foundation of followers that are possible customers.

Some marketers have lists of thousands. Can you imagine what this means to a business? It means it has a pool of potential customers, some of whom will be buying some offers at any one time. This means a steady flow of income ? something we all want and need. But how do you go about building a list to help you make contact with more prospects? After all, you do have to entice people to give you their name and email address.

Probably the most popular way of encouraging people to part with their name and email address is by giving something away. Often this is an ebook or a report to encourage you to subscribe to a newsletter. There is a big difference in the number of subscribers attracted by a free offer to the number of people responding simply because they have been invited, unless the invitation sounds irresistible.

We are all enticed by words like ?free? or ?gift?. How often have you been attracted by a proposal where there is something free on offer? Even if you did not act on it, there is every chance you lingered for a while and thought about doing something about it.

There is no doubt this works. If it doesn?t, there are lot of companies spending a lot of money going in the wrong direction. I do not think that is happening. Some very large, successful companies use giveaways as part of their marketing strategy ? and they keep doing it. Internet marketers are simply using a tried and proven method to get people?s interest, not so much to sell them something immediately but to make them part of a pool of people who are interested in a product or service.

Most businesses want your name and contact details. If you are like me, you may be reluctant to give these out without good reason. You know if you do this you are going to get follow-up phone calls or brochures or letters. And you know it is going to be hard to stop this. So, I do not give these out unless I am really interested in what is on offer ? and even then I think twice.

The same applies to Internet marketing ? most people do not give up their contact details lightly. But there is a difference to the offline world. You know if you do go onto a list on the Internet, you can unsubscribe at any time and, if this does not work, you can redirect the emails into your spam box and report the sender. In other words, we have more control of unwanted mail online than we do offline.

But that is also its weakness from a marketer?s point of view. It means someone can supply a name and email address, get the free offer and then unsubscribe. Marketers know they are going to lose a percentage this way, but they are interested in the ones that stay, because they are the real prospects.

If you are not building an email list to contact more prospects, I urge you to start now, and make it a priority. Don?t make the mistake I did in the early years and let hundreds of prospects slip away because I did not build a list.
