Apple responds to iPad overheating issues

Reports have been growing that the new iPad has heating issues. A group of users in Apple's forums claim the new iPad gets very hot. Some people even claim that the overheating are uncomfortable while others claim the heat actually causes crashes.

Tweakers.net ran a set of tests and said the iPad runs about 10 degrees hotter than the iPad 2 which is an 18% increase.

Apple provided the following statement to The Loop: The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications. If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.

Consumer Reports claims the iPad actually hits 116 degrees while running games. That's hot!

The iPad's dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics is obviously to blame. It's unfortunate that Apple cannot keep the heat down but the specs of the iPad simply don't make it possible. The original iPad never got hot which was one of the aspects of the device that made it "magical."
