Why Hasn't Brian Ross of ABC News Been Fired? ? International ...

I try not to spend too much time complaining about media bias, mostly because it doesn?t do any good.

But I have had a couple of posts about the topic, usually when there?s a hopelessly outrageous example on an issue I care about.

I?ve also had a few posts where I hit the media for mistakes that probably don?t represent overt bias, but instead reflect no knowledge of economics and/or a cloistered worldview.

Now we can add another example to the list. But it definitely belongs in the first group, because this is clear, blatant, and deliberate bias. I?m talking, of course, about ABC News and its reprehensible decision to smear a member of the Tea Party simply because he had the same name as the Colorado killer.

The obvious question to ask is why the reporter who did the smear, Brian Ross, hasn?t been fired. But not just Brian Ross. The axe should fall on anyone involved in the ideologically biased and legally reckless decision to speculate that a 52-year old Hispanic Tea Party member was responsible for the Colorado shooting

Here?s a good cartoon from the Hope-n-Change website, which has an amusing collection of anti-Obama cartoons. This does capture the mentality of the establishment media.

P.S. Here?s another cartoon about media bias that is definitely worth sharing.

P.P.S. I get irked whenever anybody refers to the big networks and newspapers as the ?mainstream press.? That?s a horribly misguided term, considering how far left they are. The Tea Party is much closer to the mainstream than those clowns. That?s why they should be called the ?establishment press.?

Bashar Assad Photoshopped? Photos Of Syrian President From Official State Media Appear Doctored

While rumors as to the whereabouts of Syrian President Bashar Assad continue to swirl following an attack that killed four senior regime officials, on Thursday Syrian state media broadcast images of the embattled leader allegedly swearing in the country's new defense minister.

SCROLL DOWN FOR QUESTIONABLE PHOTOS OF BASHAR ASSAD.

Assad's appearance on state TV, however, did little to settle rumors because the ceremony did not take place before the public. As the Associated Press notes, "The state TV announcement appeared aimed at sending the message that Assad is alive and well. It said Assad, dressed in a blue suit and tie, wished the new defense minister good luck but it did not say where the swearing-in took place."

This photo was released Thursday to corroborate the official story on Syrian media:

Assad appears to be in the same room as in this photo from May 9, 2012, when the Syrian president met with U.N. envoy Kofi Annan:

Though another new photo showing Assad and Syria's new defense minister, also released Thursday, seems just questionable enough to raise eyebrows:

If so, it probably wouldn't be the first time Syria has doctored official photos. Check out the slideshow below for pictures released by SANA, Syria's official state media, that seem to have enhanced Assad's image in some form or another.

Note: Author is not a qualified image expert, just a man with eyes. Launch Fullscreen to get a better look at the photos below.

  • This photo has been <a href="http://www.theatlanticwire.com/global/2011/07/tour-worlds-worst-photoshop-propaganda/39932/" target="_hplink">lampooned</a> plenty, but a lot of weird stuff is going on here. Most egregiously, despite sunlight flooding the photo from background windows, Assad doesn't cast a shadow. Maybe dictators don't have shadows like vampires don't have reflections? However, the lack of shadow on the rug becomes even more obvious when you turn your attention to the drop shadow outlining Assad's right leg. Unless he's just levitating. Also, the table. Somehow, that shadow is even worse than Assad's! Perhaps it's actually a magic carpet that doesn't hold shadows. Yeah, that's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkYNBwCEeH4" target="_hplink">the ticket</a>. And as <em>The Guardian</em>'s image expert, David McCoy points out, the two men <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2011/jul/12/syria-doctor-odd-photo-assad" target="_hplink">aren't even looking at one another</a>. "Assad [right] appears to have had the edge detail on his hair smoothed out, in contrast to the harsh, overly sharpened edges visible elsewhere on his body," McCoy says. Clenched fists! <em>In this photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, new governor of the central city of Hama Anas Abdul-Razzaq Naem, left, is being sworn in in front of Syrian President Bashar Assad, right, in Damascus, Syria, Monday, July 11, 2011.</em> (AP Photo/SANA)

  • Apparently, the fountain of youth bubbles somewhere in Damascus, if you believe the Syrian president's face in this official photo. Glossy women's mags would be put to shame by the smoothness of Assad's skin in this snapshot. You won't find a wrinkle or blemish around the whole of this face, save for the area immediately around his eyes. The skin tone and evenness are almost unnerving. Then again, you can see where they stop, a hair to the left of his collar and just above his tie, where a sudden change in color stands out. And it's hard to say if any special effects have enhanced Assad's hairline; at 46-years-old, the Syrian president is likely experiencing some hair loss. Assad also doesn't seem to have been gifted with a strong chin, but thanks to what looks like a nice Photoshop shadow, his jawline is positively Clooney-esque here. Unfortunately, he no longer has an Adam's apple. <em>In this photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, Syrian President Bashar Assad takes part of a religious ceremony marking the birth of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, at al-Rawda mosque, in Damascus, Syria, on Sunday Feb. 5, 2012.</em> (AP Photo/SANA)

  • "This referendum is as legit as the tone and texture of my forehead." More importantly, note the possible human being/strange poster on the right side of the photo. It could be a banner, though reasons why a photo of a random guy's back would be prominently featured in election coverage remain murky. The lack of hues/smoothness/undefined vanishing point and depth of field on the poster make it all the more questionable. <em>In this Feb. 26, 2012, file photo provided by the Syrian official news agency SANA, Syrian President Bashar Assad casts his ballot next to his wife Asma at a polling station in Damascus, Syria, during a referendum on the new constitution. </em>(AP Photo/SANA, File)

  • Assad's ability to maintain a killer hairline and a flawless complexion at his age, all while juggling the stress of a crackdown that has left at least <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/09/syria-crisis-death-toll-17000_n_1658708.html" target="_hplink">17,000 dead</a>, by some estimates, is just otherworldly. <em>In this photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, Syrian President Bashar Assad prays during a ceremony marking the birth of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, at al-Rawda mosque, in Damascus, Syria, on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. </em>(AP Photo/SANA)

  • "Yes, everyone in Syria is happy!" No real funny business seems to be in play in this photo -- just selective imagery at its finest. <em>In this photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, Syrian President Bashar Assad, right, waves to his supporters after he attended the prayer of Eid Al Adha, at the al-Nour Mosque in the northern town of Raqqa, Syria, on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.</em> (AP Photo/SANA)

  • Fahd Jassem al-Freij and Bashar Assad

This is the latest development in Syrian state images. This photo comes from the alleged <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/19/syrias-bashar-assad-whereabouts_n_1686381.html" target="_hplink">swearing in</a> of Syria's new Defense Minister, Fahd Jassem al-Freij, after his predecessor was killed in a bomb attack on Wednesday. Not quite as bizarre as last year's thousand-yard stare-fest, but still strangely sterile. Again, clenched fists, same stance. The shadows aren't quite as strange as the previous photo, but a couple of things still look fishy. The table seems to head toward the correct vanishing point, but the reflection of the door handle and frame in the floor seems sharply angled. Ostensibly, there's a chandelier behind Assad, per the reflection in the floor behind him, and another somewhere in front, per the highlight on the top-left corner of the door. That's unclear, however, given that there's no highlight on the table. Perhaps the chandelier is just above the camera. And perhaps that cream-colored pillar is just out of frame. The placement seems strange, and the highlight, too, with what you see in the mirror. But who needs mirrors when you've got that floor? You could do your makeup in that floor; and with that lighting and the help of SANA, you'd probably look like a Disney Princess when all is said and done. It probably sounds like gunshots when you walk in heels in that mausoleum. But Assad wouldn't know anything about that. <em>In this photo released by the Syrian official news agency SANA, Fahd Jassem al-Freij, Syria's new Defense Minister, left, is sworn in before Syrian President Bashar Assad, right, in Damascus, Syria, Thursday, July 19, 2012.</em> (AP Photo/SANA)

Personal Finance Control Made Easy With Simple Advice | kkr-fans ...

You can save on energy bills by using energy efficient appliances. Switch out those old light bulbs and replace them with Energy Star compliant ones. This will save on your energy bill and give your lamps a longer lifespan. Using energy efficient toasters, refrigerators and washing machines, can also help you save a lot of money in the long haul.

Make sure you?re not overspending on luxury items that you can?t actually afford. The most common problem people have is that they?re spending more than they?re bringing in. If you don?t have the money for a luxury item, don?t buy it. Instead of putting in on the credit card, put a bit of money aside toward the item each week. It?ll save you more in the long run.

A great personal finance tip is to be conscious of how much water you?re using each month. A lot of folks take water for granted on a daily basis and often forget how much running that water will cost at the end of the month. Keeping water intake down can save a lot of money.

Creating homemade custom built knives can yield one with up to thousands per knife once a person has established their name and the quality of their knives. Those who are already interested in knives often fall into this line of work through following what they like to do. Personal finances can be gained through a variety of ways including creating knives if one dedicates themselves.

When it comes to paying off your loans and credit card balances, always try to pay as much over the monthly minimum as is possible. While this may decrease your amount of free cash every month, it will ultimately result in significant increases in savings over a period of many months or a year.

To keep your personal financial life afloat, you should put a portion of every paycheck into savings. In the current economy, that can be hard to do, but even small amounts add up over time. Interest in a savings account is usually higher than your checking, so there is the added bonus of accruing more money over time.

Have a plan for dealing with collection agencies and follow it. Do not engage in a war of words with a collection agent. Simply ask them to send you written information regarding your bill and you will research it and get back to them. Research the statue of limitations in your state for collections. You may be getting pushed to pay something you are no longer liable for.

A vital step in getting your personal finances in order is to make a budget. If you do not like that term, call it a spending plan. Whatever you call it, make sure you get it done. You cannot make progress towards better controlling your finances if you do not have a handle on where your money is coming from and where it is going.

Find your own financing when buying a car. You will have more negotiating power than if you are relying on the dealer and their banks to get you financed. They will try to talk to you into monthly payments rather than the actual cost of the car. If you already have your loan in place, you can concentrate on the cost of the car itself, because you already know what your payment would be.

If you find yourself wondering where all your money is going, it?s time to start keeping track of where you spend your money. There are a number of phone apps and websites designed to let you see exactly what you?re spending your money on. This is a great way to see where you might need to make some cutbacks.

With the ideas from this article, you can now be a more informed and responsible person. Learning how to spend and save wisely can make an enormous difference in the quality of life for yourself and your entire household. Use these tips to make the most of your hard-earned money, for life.

This Photo of the Storm That Hit New York Today Is Insanely Scary [Image Cache]

Another Abortion Showdown in Virginia

Last spring, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell was a pretty credible candidate for the vice presidency. Then he tripped over a trans-vaginal ultrasound bill that enraged women throughout the commonwealth and turned?almost overnight?into a great big political cautionary tale. As Alexander Burns explained in Politico, McDonnell?s early support of a law that would have mandated an invasive ultrasound procedure for women seeking abortions ?turned McDonnell?s national political fortunes upside down.? (He later switched positions, signing a modified version of that law that did away with the now politically-toxic internal probe.) McDonnell not only became a walking human punch line for a few days, but he also may have finally managed to turn the commonwealth into a blue state: President Obama appears to have opened up a 20-point lead over Mitt Romney among women voters, who, presumably, didn?t want the state probing them for no coherent medical reason.

PFT: Broncos? Dumervil arrested on felony assault charge

Drew BreesAP

Drew Brees took care of some important business Sunday.

Took some pictures with fans, ordered food and signed a $100 million contract, not necessarily in that order.

Brees made his contract official with his signature after taking a physical at Saints headquarters. He then stopped off for something to eat before a flight back to California, and was good enough to let folks know where.?He asked fans on Twitter if anyone wanted to stop by his Jimmy John?s sandwich shop for ?a celebratory #9?

(For the record, that?s the Italian Night Club, which features Real genoa salami, Italian capicola, smoked ham, and provolone cheese all topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and homemade Italian vinaigrette.)

Brett Martel of the Associated Press caught him at the restaurant, where Brees said he looked forward to getting back to work. Brees only did one interview with WWL Radio Friday night, so Martel wins the Sunday Hustle Award, unless he just happened to be getting lunch.

?It?s been a little surreal just because of the process throughout the offseason, and just how challenging an offseason it?s been for everyone, obviously everyone within the Saints organization, this city,? Brees said. ?It?s just been a crazy offseason and I think we?re all just ready to get back to work and excited that it?s all starting here in a week. It?s hard to believe.?

Brees said he had numerous conversations with interim coach Joe Vitt and backup quarterback Chase Daniel, but looks forward to seeing a new look on defense, hoping new coordinator Steve Spagnuolo?s system gives him a challenge when camp starts.

?I just look forward to getting back to work,? Brees said. ?It does feel like it?s been a while since I?ve been out there with my guys and we were running our offense.

?Camp, for me, especially now with Spagnuolo and a new defensive scheme, that?s fun for me because just as a competitor, you go through about a four-week period where you?re competing against your own defense and they?re scheming you up and you?re scheming them up,? Brees added. ?I missed the guys; I missed the competition. I?m just excited to get back to work.?
